Police On Amazon Investigation: 'No Threat' At Sparrows Point

Investigators were called for a report of a possibly armed individual Friday night at the Amazon facility in Baltimore County.

SPARROWS POINT, MD โ€” The search for a possibly armed person at the Amazon facility at Sparrows Point has ended, according to the Baltimore County Police Department. Officials were called to the scene Friday night.

"There is no threat at the location," police said in an update just before midnight.

Initially, investigators said they received a report of a potentially armed person at the Amazon facility in the 1700 block of Sparrows Point Boulevard.

The fulfillment center, located at Tradepoint Atlantic, is where hundreds of workers pick, pack and ship items. During the investigation, the building was placed on lockdown.

Law enforcement officials converged in the area before 11:20 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30. The Baltimore County Police Department advised the public to steer clear due to what it described as "heavy police presence."

It was determined the response was due to an abundance of caution.

"There is not an active shooter at the location," the police department said in a statement at 11:22 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 30.

"The safety of our employees is our top priority. While there was no validity to the claim, we took swift action to ensure our employees' safety on site," Rachael Lighty, regional external communications manager for Amazon Operations, said in a statement. "We thank the Baltimore County Police Department for their quick response."

The investigation had concluded by the time the clock struck midnight on Saturday, Dec. 1, with police saying there was "no threat."

The incident at Sparrows Point in Baltimore County center came about four weeks after an EF-1 tornado struck southeast Baltimore City, killing two contractors at the Amazon facility there on Broening Highway.
