Vehicle into School Closes Sparrows Point Middle, High
Police identified driver, who was less than a mile from home.

Sparrows Point Middle and High Schools were closed Wednesday after a vehicle crashed into the school, officials said.
At 9:26 p.m. on Tuesday, a 1998 Ford Explorer hit Sparrows Point High School in the 7400 block of North Point Road in Edgemere, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.
The Ford Explorer had been headed north on North Point Road, south of Lodge Farm Road, when it hit a Kia Sportage from behind, police said. After the collision, the Explorer went off the road, headed north and hit the front of Sparrows Point High School, according to police.

The Explorer overturned near the cafeteria, according to WJZ.
Driver Jonathan Leonard Heil, 33, of the unit block of Loring Court in Edgemere, was trapped in the vehicle and had to be rescued by members of the Baltimore County Fire Department, police said.

Heil was taken by medevac to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in serious condition Tuesday night, police said. The driver of the other vehicle had minor injuries and was not taken for medical treatment, according to police.
Heil was approximately 0.6 mile from his home at the time of the collision, which is under investigation by the Baltimore County Police Crash Team, police said.
Baltimore County Public Schools announced Wednesday morning that the middle and high school, which are located on the same campus, would be closed because of building damage.
School officials will decide Wednesday afternoon whether to hold classes on Thursday, according to WBAL, which reported that a tarp was covering the hole in the cafeteria Wednesday morning.
