2 Teens Critically Hurt In Lothian Crash: Police
A pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old pulled out in front of a Lothian plumbing company's truck, critically injuring two teenagers.

LOTHIAN, MD — Two Calvert County teenagers were critically injured when their pickup truck reported pulled in front of a Lothian plumbing company's truck and was struck broadside, according to Anne Arundel County Police. The crash happened just after 5 p.m. Friday on Solomons Island Road at Jewell Road in Lothian.
Investigators say a 1999 Ford E450 work truck was southbound on Solomons Island Road when a 1994 GMC Sierra pickup eastbound on Jewell Road attempted to cross Solomons Island Road. The pickup was struck in the driver’s side door and pushed off the road by the crash impact.
Both the driver and passenger in the GMC were flown to the Johns Hopkins Children Center, the driver with critical injuries. The pickup truck's driver is a 17-year-old from Owings and the passenger is a 14-year-old from Dunkirk. Authorities have not released their names.

The Ford truck owned by Finamore Plumbing Services Inc. of 4120 Conte Road in Lothian was driven by Walter F. Layman III, 51, of St. Leonard. He refused medical treatment at the scene.
The primary cause of the crash appears to be the failure of the pickup truck's driver to yield right of way when crossing/entering the highway. Neither speed nor alcohol use are suspected as contributing factors in the crash, police say. Charges, if any, will be filed after review by the Anne Arundel State’s Attorney.
