Anne Arundel County Police identified the woman in a Thursday release as Wendy Sue Fleegal Cox, who was driving a 2002 Mercedes CLK 320.

The deadly crash took place Wednesday shortly after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Solomons Island and Jewell roads, according to police.

"The preliminary investigation revealed that a Mercedes was stopped at the stop sign on the eastbound lane of Jewell Road at Solomons Island Road," reads the release. "A southbound Honda Accord struck the Mercedes on the driver's side as the Mercedes entered the intersection."

Authorities said Cox was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man and an 86-year-old woman traveling with him were taken by helicopter to an area hospital. Both individuals suffered serious injuries and remain in critical but stable condition, police said.

The identities of the driver and passenger were not released, although police did say they were both from the Harwood area.

An investigation into the crash remains active.
