Obituary: Lyle Duane Verbeek

Lyle Duane Verbeek, 81, a resident of Glenn Dale MD
for the past 45 years, died November 21st after a brief hospital stay at  Anne Arundel Medical Center. Lyle was born December 13th 1929 in Scribner, Nebraska.  He was in the Army from 1948 to 1953,then served another five years in the reserves, rising to the rank of Warrant Officer. After service, Lyle began his career with the federal government, working in what was the “fledgling” computer field. He climbed to the senior ranks of the National Security Agency, retiring as a member of the Senior Cryptologic Executive Service obtaining an Exceptional Civilian Service Award. His joys included spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grand-child.  Lyle will be remembered by his family, friends and neighbors for his dry sense of humor, generous nature, and a “can do” problem solving ability. 

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Patricia Louise Verbeek, whom he married May 3rd 1952; four children, Dennis Verbeek (JoAnn) of San Antonio TX; Kevin Verbeek (Wendy) of Cape St Claire; Stephen Verbeek (Wendy) of Crownsville; Kerry Ann Monroe (Dave)of Davidsonville; Nine grandchildren, Jennifer Tyree (Raj),Ashley and Cody Verbeek, Melissa, Victoria, Alexandra Verbeek, Ian and Connor Monroe; and one great grand-child, Lilly Tyree.

A memorial gathering will be held from 1 to 3 pm. and 6 to 8 pm. on Tuesday December 6th at Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Annapolis. A private family funeral will be held on Dec 7 at Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post #7, 1905 Crownsville Road, Annapolis MD, 21401-6450
