Student’s Death Prompts Anne Arundel County Council Resolution

The Anne Arundel County Council passed a resolution expressing condolences to the family of a Central Special student who passed away.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Central Special student Bowen Levy, 17, died in November after choking on a latex glove while at school. To honor him, the Anne Arundel County Council unanimously passed a resolution Monday night expressing sympathy and condolences to Levy's family.

“Bowen was the embodiment of joy and light-heartedness in this world,” the resolution stated. “The loss of such a young life is a loss to all of us.”

Levy passed away in a hospital five days after the choking incident. The family has asked the county board of education to “commission an independent, outside investigation” into Bowen’s death, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Officials at the school called 911 on Nov. 5 after Levy was reported to be choking. School district spokesman Bob Mosier noted that the student was being supervised at the time. Anne Arundel County Fire Department paramedics took the boy to Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

Central Special School, at 140 Stepney Lane in Edgewater, offers services to children with and without disabilities from ages 3 to 5 in a half-day setting, as well as an all-day program for children who have severe disabilities from age 6 to 21.

According to his obituary, Levy died Nov. 10, eight days before his 18th birthday.
