Anne Arundel County Firefighters Battle Brush Fire Near Lothian
Dozens of firefighters battled a 12-acre brush fire Sunday near Sands Road Park outside Lothian.
LOTHIAN, MD — Anne Arundel County firefighters were assisted by four other departments in battling a raging brush fire that cropped up in the area of the Sands Road Park near Lothian. The fire broke out at about 3:49 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15.
Firefighters first to arrive on the scene found a large section of grassy ground and small trees consumed by fire that quickly spread thanks to a wind shift. The only way to access the area was on foot and with four-wheel-drive vehicles, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department reported.
An additional 4 acres burned because of the wind shift, causing upwards of 12 acres to burn. No injuries were reported and it took an estimated two hours to rein in the fire, which was reported by a passing driver.
