Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. On Sunday April 22, 32 motorcycle riders and their families gathered together with members of Mayo United Methodist Church (UMC) to share a Blessing of the Bikers service. Riders from the local community, Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA), and the Legion Riders of the American Legion Chapter in Edgewater, gathered together to share stories and receive a special blessing for their safety during this riding season. "We know the road can be a dangerous place, particularly for those who are often not seen, or they are seen but ignored by other drivers" says Mayo UMC pastor Rev. Kathy Altman. "Our prayer is for a safe season, filled with the joys offered by adhering to the call of the open road." Several riders asked for a blessing for their motorcycles as well, as often mechanical mishaps can leave riders vulnerable to the dangers around them. Motorcycle riders and church members joined together for a common cause – keeping our roads safer for all who travel in our area during the busy spring and summer months.
