Join us for a South River Days Celebration!
Kayak, picnic, and wade-in with the South River Federation!

The 3rd Annual South River Days will commence on June 10th and run through Saturday, June 15th. It is a week where the Federation focuses on one particular part of our mission—celebrating! This week is all about getting people connected to the South River, whether it is through an oyster flotilla, a kayak trip, or listening to the success stories from in and around the Chesapeake Bay. However you decide to engage, we hope to leave you with a positive outlook for our waterways.
Dr. Walter Boynton, from the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory, will give a talk on the Success Stories from around the Chesapeake Bay. We have been working hard for restoration and we are now seeing some cool results and trends. The presentation will be held at the Londontowne Community Hall on Tuesday, June 11th at 7:00 p.m. This is our annual summer meeting, so please bring your neighbors and friends.
The week continues with the Oyster Flotilla—the opportunity to drop off your baby oysters onto the sanctuary in Glebe Bay. On Wednesday, June 12th, from 5 to 7 pm Captain Diana Muller, South RIVERKEEPER, will be out on Glebe Bay with the Riverkeeper boat helping people distribute their oysters onto the sanctuary. We encourage all oyster growers to deck out their boats and join us for the flotilla. If you have any questions in regards to the Oyster Flotilla please contact Jennifer at jennifer@southriverfederation.net or call (410) 224-3802 for more information.

The week comes to an end with the South River Days Kayak, Wade-In, and Picnic on Saturday, June 15th at Hillsmere Community Beach from 9 to 1 p.m. This day is all about the river and celebrating this beautiful resource we have in our backyard. However, we wanted to do something different this year due to all of the excitement of the stormwater fee and completed restoration projects on the Western Shore. We’ve invited the West Rhode Riverkeeper, Severn Riverkeeper, Spa Creek Conservancy, and the Severn River Association to join us that day as we wade into the river. We hope that you too can join us for a day of celebrating. Please RSVP to sarah@southriverfederation.net. If you need to rent a kayak, please call our office at 410-224-3802 for more details.
