Cold, Wind in Forecast as School Restarts
Fall-like weather heads out of town for a few days, while strong winds and cold temperatures expected to move in.
Finally, it may be time to bring out the heavy sweaters and down coats. Although there are no extreme weather alerts, the National Weather Service is predicting hazardous cold temperatures for the next few days.
Wild winds whipped through the area overnight into Monday—Bowie State University reported wind gusts at 51 mph overnight. As of 8 a.m. Monday, however, the BGE outage map reports that only 13 people are out of power in all of Anne Arundel County.
On Monday, highs will be in the mid-40s, getting colder throughout the day with a chance of flurries in the evening and a low of 29. Wind gusts are expected to pick up Monday afternoon, peaking around 30 mph.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools are back from a 11-day winter break on Tuesday when the forecast calls for early morning temperatures around 18 degrees. Make sure the children are bundled up as they head to the bus stop.
If students got new coats or winter clothing items, remember to put the child’s name inside of the garments in Sharpie marker. Each year, schools give away hundreds of unclaimed coats, scarves, hats and gloves.

NWS forecasts windy conditions Tuesday afternoon with gusts predicted up to 33 mph. The high Tuesday is expected to hit 34 degrees.
Wednesday's high is expected to hit 34 degrees with winds dying down and warmer air moving in. By the weekend, expect clear skies and temps above freezing—NWS predicts a high of 51 degrees by Saturday.
