Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. EDGEWATER, MD — Hope &amp; Healing for Heroes: A Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Event planned for March 30 from 9 a.m. to noon has been canceled out of concern for the new coronavirus. The event was to be held at the American Legion Post 226 in Edgewater. All Vietnam veterans and one guest were invited to attend for free. In 2020, Hospice of the Chesapeake commemorated Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans Day with this special event. The goal of the event is to help veterans "find joy, healing and support." Vet to Vet Cafe, scheduled for March 21 at the Annapolis Vet Center, has been rescheduled for April 18. It also is hosted by Hospice of the Chesapeake. This free event encourages military veterans to socialize with other veterans.
