Davidsonville Teen Dies in Crash: Police

Speed and alcohol may have caused the 17-year-old to miss a curve and crash into a tree, police say.

Speed and alcohol may have been factors in a Sunday crash that killed a Davidsonville teenager, authorities say.

Anne Arundel County Police say the single-vehicle crash was reported about 2:20 a.m. on Blandford Way near Gresham Lane in Davidsonville.

Investigators say a Honda Ridgeline driven by Joshua Robert Olshaw, 17, of Davidsonville, was southbound on Blandford Way when it failed to negotiate a right curve in the roadway. The Honda left the road, struck a tree, and came to rest in the northbound lane of Blandford Way.

Police say the preliminary cause of the crash was Olshaw’s failure to remain in a single lane and make the curve in the road. Speed and alcohol are contributing factors.

Olshaw was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma by State Police helicopter, where he died from his injuries just before noon Sunday.
