DC Driver Slams Into Tree In Lothian Crash: Police
Anne Arundel County Police say a DC man lost control of his car, which slammed into a tree in the Lothian area.

LOTHIAN, MD — Anne Arundel County Police say a Washington, DC, man was hurt when he lost control of his car, which slammed into a tree in the Lothian area. The single-vehicle crash happened about 9:52 a.m. Monday on Southern Maryland Boulevard (MD-4) at Upper Pindell Road in Lothian.
Investigators say a 2003 Lincoln Continental was southbound when it drifted off the left side of the roadway into the grass. While the driver attempted to correct, the vehicle went out of control, crossed the roadway and crashed into a tree.
The driver has been identified as Jerrell Edwards, 52, of the 1900 block of Alabama Avenue SE in Washington, DC. Edwards was wearing a seat belt, but suffered serious injuries and was taken by helicopter to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

Police say the primary cause of the crash was the driver's failure to remain in a single lane. Investigators don't yet know if alcohol or drugs are contributing factors. Any charges would be filed after a review by the Anne Arundel County state’s attorney.
