Donors Fund Protective Vests for AA Police Dogs

A nonprofit venture and anonymous donors have paid nearly $4,000 to outfit four Anne Arundel County Police dogs with bullet- and stab-proof vests,

The department says on its Facebook page that K9’s Cito, Sar, Bodi, and Loki have received ballistic vests thanks to Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., and Jennifer Luciano, who gave $1,975 to outfit the police dogs.

Two anonymous donors gave $1,950 for vests for K9’s Bodi and Loki’s protective vests.

The K9 teams include:

• Corporal Mike Meadows and K9 Loki, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois certified in patrol functions and explosive detection
• Corporal Matt Sanchez and K9 Bodi, a 3-year-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois mix, certified in patrol functions and narcotics detection
• Corporal James Brewer and K9 Sar, a 7-year-old German Shepherd certified in patrol functions and explosive detection
• Corporal Brian Fleig and K9 Cito, a 6-year-old German Shepherd certified in patrol functions and explosive detection.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a nonprofit located in East Taunton, MA, that provides bullet and stab protective vests to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the country. The charity has given protective vests to more than 1,200 law enforcement dogs in 40 states since 2009 at a cost of over $1.1 million.
