Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. LOTHIAN, MD — A Clinton man whose vehicle reportedly crossed over the center line was critically injured Monday in a head-on crash in Lothian. Anne Arundel County Police say the two-vehicle accident happened just before 8 p.m. on Sands Road at McPumphrey Drive in Lothian.Investigators say a 2002 Saturn was northbound on Sands Road when it crossed into the travel lane of a southbound 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, striking it nearly head-on. The driver of the Saturn — Joseph Lee Barnes, 71, of Clinton — was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma with critical injuries. The driver of the pickup — Ronald H. Gilbert, 57, of Harwood — suffered minor injuries but refused medical treatment at the scene. The primary cause of this collision was Barnes' failure to drive right of center, police said. Speed is also likely a contributing factor. Drugs or alcohol were not believed to be contributing factors. Charges, if any, will be filed after review by the State's Attorney.Image via Shutterstock
