Edgewater, Annapolis Men Arrested for Child Porn Distribution
Anne Arundel County Police have arrested men from Annapolis and Edgewater for allegedly distributing child pornography online.
ANNAPOLIS, MD — Men from Annapolis and Edgewater were arrested recently by Anne Arundel County Police in unrelated child pornography investigations, authorities say. The two suspects charged with multiple counts of distributing and possessing child pornography are: Robert Patrick Schmitt, 40, of the 4000 block of Kings Road in Edgewater, and Daniel Burkhard, 40, of the 700 block of Warren Drive in Annapolis.
Investigators served a search warrant at Burkard's home in November 2016, and seized a computer he owned. During the examination of the computer, experts found multiple files of child pornography, which led to an arrest warrant for Burkhard. He was taken into custody on Jan. 13.
In October 2016, police began investigating Schmitt after receiving a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that he was uploading images of child pornography to a social media account. In December 2016, police executed a search warrant at Schmitt’s Edgewater residence in which a computer was seized and later found to contain multiple images of child pornography.
