Edgewater ATV Driver Critically Injured in Crash: Police
The 18-year-old driver may have been speeding, police say, and wasn't wearing a helmet when he crashed into trees.
An Edgewater teenager suffered life-threatening injuries, police say, after his speeding all-terrain vehicle went off a road and crashed into trees.
ATV driver Jeremy A. DePhillip, 18, of Oak Lane in Edgewater was injured in the single-vehicle accident reported about 4 p.m. Sunday, according to Anne Arundel County Police.
Investigators say DePhillip’s Can-am Outlander ATV 4-wheeler was traveling at a high rate of speed on Oak Lane toward Central Avenue. DePhillip failed to negotiate a sharp curve and the four-wheeler went off the road, striking several trees.

DePhillip was taken by helicopter to University of Maryland Shock Trauma with critical, life-threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash is failure to remain right of center with speed being a major contributing factor, police said. There was no suspicion of alcohol use.
