Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. EDGEWATER, MD — An electrical problem likely started a fire that caused an estimated $50,000 damage to an Edgewater house Wednesday and displaced two residents, say Anne Arundel County Fire Department officials. The fire was reported about 10:45 p.m. at a house in the 1000 block of Arundel Road.The residents called 9-1-1 after discovering a fire in their home's attic. Firefighters reported smoke and fire from the attic and roof area of the home; they extinguished the fire in less than 10 minutes.Authorities say the cause of the fire was accidental and electrical in origin.The home's two occupants were displaced overnight and are staying with family.
