The 15th Annual Fannie Lou Hamer Awards ceremony and reception will be held in the Francis Scott Key Auditorium and Lobby at St. John's College. Six women from Anne Arundel County will receive awards at this event co-sponsored by The Martin Luther King Jr. Committee, Inc., the Attorney General's Office of Maryland and St. John's College.
The awards are named for Mrs. Hamer, an acclaimed civil rights leader who remained a leader in the movement even after she was jailed and severely beaten. Anne Arundel County is the only jurisdiction in Maryland that celebrates Mrs. Hamer's birthday.
The keynote speaker is Diane Bell-McKoy, president and CEO of Associated Black Charities (ABC), Maryland's leading African-American philanthropic organization.
