
The McDonald’s Family Restaurants of Greater Baltimore is pleased to honor Southern Middle School teacher Laura Groo, a finalist for the Maryland Teacher of the Year Award. The award recognizes elementary, middle and high school teachers that excel as both instructors and leaders within their communities.
Groos is the Anne Arundel County teacher of the year for 2011.
To celebrate Groo’s accomplishment, McDonald’s located at 113 Mitchells Chance in Edgewater, MD is hosting a “McTeacher of the Year Night” in her honor from 5 - 8 pm on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

The event will allow members of Southern Middle School and the local Anne Arundel County community the opportunity to thank Laura for her commitment to education. In addition, McDonald’s will donate a percentage of all sales garnered during the event to Southern Middle School and will be presenting Ms. Groo with several additional surprises.
“The Maryland Teacher of the Year program recognizes some of the most distinguished and influential educational leaders within the state,” said Darla Strouse, Executive Director of the Maryland State Department of Education.
