Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks serves millions of residents and visitors annually through a wide variety of services and programs. Its primary focus is to provide comprehensive recreational programs for residents and safeguard valuable land through the maintenance and management of over 160 parks and natural areas. The department manages specialized recreational facilities, including two swim centers, two golf courses, three ice rinks, a baseball stadium, a softball complex, and programs tailored to diverse needs ranging from school-age childcare to adaptive recreation. It also cares for thousands of acres of land, encompassing community parks, greenways, archaeological sites, environmental and historical preserves, and large regional parks spanning several hundred acres. Its mission is to create opportunities that allow individuals to enjoy life, explore nature, and restore their health and well-being. SHADY SIDE, MD — A robbery victim described by police as "highly intoxicated" reported she was robbed Monday night on the community pier in Shady Side. The woman said two men — one of whom had a handgun — and a woman threatened her and took her cash. The robbery was reported about 9:50 p.m. in the area of the Cedarhurst Community Pier on Chesapeake Avenue in Shady Side. The woman told officers that while she was at the pier she was approached by two men and a woman who had a gun and demanded her money. She gave the robbers her cash and the thieves walked away, according to the police report. Several officers searched the area but there were unable to locate the robbers. The thieves are described as a tall man wearing a gray hoodie, armed with a handgun; a second man; and a woman with a heavy build, about 5'01" wearing a black shirt and blue jeans.
