A townhome fire in Glen Burnie was extinguished within 20 minutes but not without injuring a firefighter in the process.

GLEN BURNIE, MD – A house fire the afternoon of Friday, May 24, resulted in a firefighter sustaining non-life-threatening injuries and the family being forced from the home. The Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to the call for help, along with the Baltimore County Fire Department and the Baltimore City Fire Department. Twenty-nine firefighters total were on hand to battle the blaze.

According to a report released by the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, the first set of firefighters to arrive on the scene determined the fire’s location was on the second floor of the two-story end of the row townhome. They “made an aggressive attack” and had it under control within 20 minutes, the report stated. While battling the fire, one firefighter suffered burns to his hand and was transported to the Burn Center at Johns Hopkins Bay View.

The owner and other family members were present at the time of the fire and reported the incident. Four adults and three children have since been displaced because of the fire and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
