a few ideas I had...
1. Bring back the emergency unemployment program. Reduce the amount if you must to save money, but don't just kill the entire program and toss 1.6M people under the financial bus. Enable the program again now, today. Then congress can spend all the time they want arguing about it and discussing the details about it.
2. get rid of the 10% tax penalty imposed on people that need to get money from their IRA to pay bills. After all, people worked to earn this money in their IRAs. Why should be be penalized for taking it out? Change the current laws/rules on this.
3. Unemployment is taxed at 18%. Why not lower this number to 5%?
4. Lower taxes. Maryland and Anne Arundel county have really high tax rates. Every time taxes go up, taxpayers have less money for themselves. Less money to spend at the store, so businesses and employees eventually feel the pinch.
By the way, I'm in favor of mandatory drug testing for anyone getting unemployment or welfare. If you test positive for drugs, your money stops.
