Irene Marie Johns, 90, a five-year resident of Columbia and previously of Edgewater, died on Nov. 10, 2015 at Howard County General Hospital in Columbia.
Born August 16, 1925 in Wilmington, DE, to the late Francis and Marguerite Givens, Irene worked as an administrative assistant for the American Postal Workers Union for 20 years. She was a parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Edgewater and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Irene enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Irene was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Johns Sr., and her children, Eileen M. Sarles and Thomas L. Johns.
She is survived by a grandson, Richard Williamson; one son James E. Johns, Jr.; and her other grandchildren James Jubane, James E. Johns, III and Sherry Jubane.

Friends may call on Friday, Nov. 13, from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 10am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 515 Loch Haven Drive in Edgewater. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville.
