John Steven Marks, 67, of Edgewater

John Steven Marks, 67, a lifelong resident of Edgewater, passed away on Friday, May 15, 2015 at Heritage Harbour Health & Rehab Center in Annapolis.

John was born October 16, 1947 in Washington, D.C., to Dorothy A. and the late John Lewis Marks. He was a graduate of Annapolis Senior High and worked for over 45 years as a body repair technician. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was a proud member of the National Rifle Association.

His interests included politics, crabbing and he was an avid power boater for 30 years. A Corvette enthusiast, he also enjoyed old and antique cars was a lifelong Redskins fan and a history buff. John especially loved his family and grandchildren, and was very proud of his oldest granddaughter Keeley, who will be graduating high school and attending college in the fall.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Lewis Marks and one brother, Thomas L. Marks.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ute Marks, one daughter, Denise Marks-Helfrick of Edgewater, his mother, Dorothy A, Marks, siblings; James L. Marks and Helene Higgins, also survived by his granddaughters; Keeley Smith and Alexis Helfrick, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call on Wednesday, May 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, where a funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 21, at 11 a.m.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1041 Route 3 North, Gambrills, MD 21054 or to SPCA of Anne Arundel County, 1815 Bay Ridge Ave, Annapolis, MD 21403.
