Joseph Irving Smith, 87, of Edgewater

Joseph Irving Smith, 87, a 25-year resident of Edgewater, and previously of Upper Marlboro, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2016.

He was born on May 22, 1928 in Upper Marlboro to the late James and Margaret Tayman Smith. Joseph was a lifelong farmer, and even recently had a small garden at his home.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith and 10 siblings.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Smith of Edgewater; his children Charlie Smith and Millie Weikle, both of Lothian; three sisters; Mary, Agnes and Rosie; three grandchildren; Joey, Craig and Timothy; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ezra.

Friends may call on Monday, April 11, 2016 from 2 pm until a funeral service begins at 4 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater. Interment will be private.
