Kathryn Marie Carey "Kit Kat", 69, a resident of Edgewater, MD for more than 50 years, died on June 29, 2016, at her home after an eight-year battle with cancer.
Born on July 15, 1946, in Washington, D.C., to the late Ralph and Amelia Mott, Kathryn graduated from Wheaton High School in Wheaton, MD. She worked at Walter Reed Army Medical Center for a short time then worked at the Department of Agriculture in Hyattsville, MD.

After retiring in 1994 after 29 years of service with the federal government, Kathryn owned and operated a hair salon in Edgewater. She was a member of the London Towne Property Owners Association (LTPOA) and often volunteered to help at community functions and parties. She especially liked doing things to help with the children.
Kathryn also volunteered as a hairstylist for the elderly at several assisted living facilities in the area. She enjoyed doing crafts, puzzles, going on cruises and gambling in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, but her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia.
She is survived by her son, Christopher Vincent Carey and his wife Tammy of Edgewater; her brother, Michael Mott of Keezletown, VA; her grandchildren, Christopher Vincent Carey, Jr. and Remy Lee Carey and her former husband, Charles R. "Bob" Carey, Jr.
A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Saturday, July 16, at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD.
