KKK Fliers Left In Lothian Not A Crime: Police

While offensive, KKK fliers left in a Lothian neighborhood do not appear to be against the law, say Anne Arundel County Police.

LOTHIAN, MD — Racist fliers distributed around a Lothian neighborhood Nov. 12 are offensive, but not illegal, Anne Arundel County Police said. The Ku Klux Klan fliers were reported about 1 p.m. Monday in the Iron Stone community by a resident; authorities don't know who distributed the KKK material around the neighborhood.

The fliers were not threatening in nature, but were extremely offensive, police said. KKK fliers were also reported in Glen Burnie over the weekend. Police say no specific person seems to have been a target of the racist materials, which were left at 30 to 40 homes or yards in Glen Burnie.

“The Anne Arundel County Police Department condemns this type of behavior and these racist ideologies. This mindset has no place within our county. We will continue to work extremely hard to make all citizens in this county feel safe and included,” Chief Timothy Altomare said in a statement.

The Lothian incident, while incredibly inappropriate and offensive, appears to be non-criminal in nature as no threats were made toward a person or group of people, Director of Media Relations Sgt. Jacklyn Davis said.
