Language Barrier Delays Robbery Report By Two Days

Anne Arundel County Police say a Lothian clerk didn't call to report a weekend robbery; the owner called two days later.

LOTHIAN, MD — A language barrier caused a two-day delay in a report of a Lothian convenience store to police, according to authorities.

Police were called Monday afternoon to the BWA convenience store at 5488 Southern Maryland Blvd. for a robbery that had occurred earlier.

The store owner told Anne Arundel County Police that the robbery occurred about 11:45 a.m. on Saturday, but because of a language barrier, the clerk failed to report the hold-up.

The clerk -- using the owner as an interpreter – told police that a white man, about 5’3”, entered the store with a handgun, and demanded money. After the robber took an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled the store in an unknown direction.

The clerk could give no description of the suspect’s clothing.
