Lester P. Cummings, 97, of Mayo

MAYO, MD — Lester P. Cummings, a lifelong resident of Mayo, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016. He was 97 years old.

Lester was born on December 21, 1919 to the late John Cummings and Kate Stallings. He served in the U.S. Army for two-and-a-half years during WWII. Lester worked as a custom cabinet maker and trim carpenter for John Trumpy and Sons Boat Yard until 1974. He then worked at Cypress Marina in Severna Park until his retirement.

Lester was a charter member of American Legion Post 226 in Mayo. He was an avid fisherman and spent most of his retirement fishing and crabbing on the Chesapeake Bay.

Lester was the devoted husband of the late Helen E. Trabing; beloved father of Charles E. Cummings of Mayo; also survived by two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Friends are invited to Lester’s celebration of life at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater on Monday, Jan. 11, from 1 p.m. until his memorial service begins at 2:30 p.m. Interment will be private.
