Let's Kick Cancer's Butt!

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life needs your help. We need to Finish the Fight against cancer and we can't do it without you.

Relay for Life is a community based non-competitive walking event that brings together more than 3.5 million people to CELEBRATE the lives of those who have battled cancer, REMEMBER those we have lost, and empower individuals and communities to FIGHT BACK against this terrible disease. Over 5000 events occur throughout the country each year. In May 1985, Dr. Gordy Klatt founded the event in Tacoma Washington. In this 30th year of Relay, we are celebrating our Survivors and Caregivers and creating more birthdays. Visit www.relayforlife.org/southaacountymd and www.cancer.org for more information.

Teams of people raise money prior to the event by conducting a variety of fundraising activities. Teams also have the opportunity to have a fundraising element at their campsite during the event. Our community’s cancer survivors and caregivers are invited to attend a complimentary meal prior to the Opening Ceremony.  Survivors and caregivers participate in a Victory Lap where they are cheered on by teams surrounding the track.  At sunset, a luminaria ceremony features candlelit bags in memory of or in honor of a loved one who has battled or continues to battle cancer.
