Accidental Lothian House Fire Displaces 2, Causes $170K In Damage: Officials
A Lothian house fire displaced two residents and caused $170,000 in damage, a report said. Authorities think a malfunction caused the blaze.

LOTHIAN, MD — Officials announced that a Lothian house fire displaced two residents and caused $170,000 in damage on Saturday. Nobody was hurt in the accidental blaze.
Authorities think the flames started with an electrical or mechanical malfunction in the basement utility room.
Functioning smoke detectors alerted the occupants of the fire, a press release said. The residents evacuated safely and called 911 around 5:20 a.m.

First responders said they did not see any exterior signs of fire when they arrived at the 2.5-story, single-family home in the unit block of Mullen Lane. Firefighters soon after spotted the blaze in the basement utility room, which extended up to the first floor of the 7,000-square-foot home.

A team of 63 said it controlled the flames in about an hour.
