An 18-year-old girl from Lothian was killed in a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon; police say her car crossed the center line.

LOTHIAN, MD — An 18-year-old girl from Lothian was killed in a head-on crash Tuesday afternoon when her car crossed the center line on (Old) Southern Maryland Boulevard, according to Anne Arundel County Police. The fatal accident happened about 3:44 p.m. near Sands Road in Lothian.
Investigators say a 2006 Honda Civic driven by Stephanie Michelle Musser, 18, of the 1oo block of Main Street in Lothian was northbound on (Old) Southern Maryland Boulevard. Musser's car crossed into the southbound lane and struck a Chevrolet Express van nearly head-on, police say.
Musser was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene. Her body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The driver of the 2013 van — Richard Douglas Casey, 57, of the 4100 block of Calvert Street in Chesapeake Beach — was flown to Prince George’s Hospital Center with serious injuries.

Police say the primary cause of the crash is Musser’s failure to drive right of center. Excessive speed is also believed to be a factor.
Whether the driver had alcohol and/or drugs in her system at the time of the crash is unknown pending toxicology results.
