Lothian Woman Killed In 3-Vehicle Crash: Police

A Lothian woman was killed when her car was rear-ended by another car and then struck by a commercial truck, county police say.

LOTHIAN, MD — A Lothian woman was killed Wednesday morning when her car was rear-ended and sent into the opposite lane, where it was struck by a commercial truck, Anne Arundel County Police say. Evelyn Marie Settle, 56, was pronounced dead at the scene by Anne Arundel County Fire Department personnel.

The three-vehicle crash happened just before 8 a.m. on Solomons Island Road (MD 2) just north of Bay Front Road (MD 258) in Lothian. A 2016 Ford Focus driven by Settle was northbound on Solomons Island Road attempting to turn left into the Park and Ride located in the 5700 block. Anne Arundel County Police say Settle's car was struck from behind by a 2012 Chrysler 200 driven by Emily Morgan Fishback, 22, of Friendship.

The impact from the collision sent the Focus into the southbound lane, where it was struck on the passenger side by a southbound commercial box truck.

The cause of the crash appears to be Fishback's failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision, police say. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor. Any charges would be filed after a review by the State's Attorney.

The occupants of the other two vehicles were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Fishback and an 11-year-old Lothian boy who was a passenger in her car both suffered minor injuries, as did truck driver John Leroy Keister, 52, of Stevensville.
