Man Charged with Murder in Lothian Shooting

Police say an Elkridge man shot a Churchton man multiple times Friday in Lothian.

Tips from the public led Anne Arundel County Police to charge an Elkridge man in the murder of a man found shot to death along a path in Lothian.

Anne Arundel County Police found Joseph Steven Gibbons, 21, of Churchton lying in a wooded area near the intersection of Margarita Street and Tequila Straight Drive in Lothian Friday night.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of Gibbons’ death as multiple gunshot wounds and the manner homicide.

Detectives interviewed numerous witnesses and sorted through tips as they came into police, which led police to execute search warrants Sunday in both Anne Arundel and Howard Counties. With the assistance of the Howard County Special Operations Section, Andrew Thomas Morgan, 28, of 6721 Pirch Way in Elkridge, was taken into custody without incident at his home.

Morgan was charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, illegal possession of a firearm after convicted of a crime of violence, wear carry transport of a firearm, and firearm used in a crime of violence.

Morgan is being held without bail at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.
