Man Thrown From Vehicle in West River Crash
Anne Arundel County Police say an elderly man's SUV hit a pole in the one-car crash Saturday.

An elderly Shadyside man was critically injured Saturday morning in crash in the West River/Galesville area, according to authorities.
Anne Arundel County Police were called at 11:10 a.m. to a single-vehicle crash at Muddy Creek Road near Old Sudley Road in West River.
A black Honda CRV driven by James Harford Smith, 80, of 1431 Cedarhurst Road in Shadyside was northbound on Muddy Creek Road when it left the road and struck a pole. The vehicle rotated and then struck a tree, throwing Smith from the vehicle.

It does not appear that speed or alcohol contributed to the accident. The driver suffered from numerous medical conditions which may have contributed to the crash, police said.
The driver was critically injured and was flown by helicopter to Shock Trauma in Baltimore.
