Man Tubing On Rhode River Injured, Flown To Trauma Center

The Maryland State Police executed an aerial rescue of a man injured while tubing on the Rhode River near Edgewater.

EDGEWATER, MD — A 34-year-old man tubing on the Rhode River Sunday afternoon near Edgewater hit a wake and was ejected from the tube, sustaining serious injuries. The incident occurred July 28 at approximately 4 p.m. The victim's friends pulled the man from the water and moved him to Flat Island where they called 911.

Firefighters from the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Marine Division arrived by boat and assessed the patient's condition, then requested assistance from the Maryland State Police in order to use its helicopter to hoist the patient off the island as the safest way to transport him to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, the county fire department reported.

The victim's injuries were serious but not considered to be life threatening. According to the Maryland State Police, Trooper 2 was dispatched to the island and lowered a state trooper/flight paramedic who administered medical care while the rescue team prepped the victim to be hoisted upward by the helicopter.
