Mary Meta Bembe, 64, of Edgewater

Mary Meta Bembe, born June 30, 1951 of Edgewater, died Friday, February 5, in her home, surrounded by her family, seven months after her diagnosis with cancer.

She was an Annapolis High School graduate and former employee of Nationwide Insurance. She retired after 30 years of service with the Anne Arundel County Public Schools, during which time she earned her Associates Degree in Applied Sciences from Anne Arundel Community College.

She was the proud mother of her two surviving sons. She loved spending time outdoors gardening and researching family genealogy. The light of her life was spending as much time with her two grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard O. Hardesty, Sr.

She is survived by her mother, Margaret “Betty” Hardesty Schmitt; her sister Margaret “Peggi” Michaels; her brother Howard Hardesty Jr., her oldest son Preston Bembe and future daughter-in-law Natalie Gloss, and youngest son Richard Bembe and his wife Sarah Bembe, and their two children Jackson Bembe and Brooke Bembe.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater, where a funeral service will be held on Friday, February 12, at 11 a.m.

Interment will follow at Davidsonville United Methodist Church Cemetery.
