Maryland Guinness World Record Holder Hopes To Shatter 3rd Record
A Crofton man broke two Guinness World Records using the track at South River High School in Edgewater and is aiming to shatter a third.
EDGEWATER, MD — A 56-year-old grandfather of three and father of five who claims Crofton as his home surprisingly is a Guinness World Record holder two times over. He has set records for the farthest distance bicycle wheelie in one hour (16.07 miles or 65 laps) done in Edgewater at the South River High School track and the fastest bicycle wheelie surpassing 100 meters (10.86) seconds.
While popping wheelies may sound like kids play, it's grown up work for Rich Flanagan. Now, he's setting his sights on racking up a third Guinness World record -- the longest ever wheelie ride. That record currently is held by an Austrian man who logged in approximately 26 miles.
Flanagan hopes to set the record at 100 miles and his training regimen is crazy. Flanagan also follows a high-carb diet pushing 50 carbs daily.

"I ride six days a week," Flanagan told WUSA. "I ride at least 10 miles every day. Twice a week I practice and I ride long. I ride 50 to 100 miles, on one wheel."
For a kid who popped his first wheelie at age eight, Flanagan has made quite the name for himself riding around on just one wheel.
