The preliminary cause of the crash is unknown, investigators say, but may be pedestrian error.
The vehicle that struck Decheubel did not remain on the scene and there were no witnesses to the crash.
It is unknown what specific damage the suspect vehicle sustained, but should have damage to the front passenger side of the hood, windshield, quarter panel and/or door. It’s likely the crash occurred between 1 and 5 a.m., according to police.
Mayo Elementary school is closed to students and staff Friday because of the police investigation in the area, say officials.
All other schools will operate on normal schedules, with buses providing transportation on a significantly delayed basis.
