Melissa McCathran Burke, “Missy”, 39, a lifelong resident of Edgewater, died on Jan. 9, 2016, surrounded by her family.

Missy was born February 27, 1975 in Annapolis to Harry and Joan McCathran and was a 1993 graduate of Annapolis Area Christian School. She worked as a day-care provider and pre-school director, but her most cherished position was being a mother, raising three boys.

Missy attended Revolution Church in Annapolis. She enjoyed the outdoors, especially hiking and camping, but loved the ocean and spending time at the beach.

Missy was preceded in death by her brother, Mark McCathran.

She was the wife of Chris Burke of Edgewater; mother of Charlie and J. Brown and C.J. Burke; stepmother of Caitlyn Burke; and sister of John, Mike, Debbie, Lisa and Mary.

A celebration of Missy’s life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Mayo Beach Park, 4150 Honeysuckle Drive in Edgewater.
