Memorial Day 2016: What's Open, Closed in Edgewater (ICYMI)

While Anne Arundel County offices are closed for Memorial Day, the beach is open. And Annapolis has its annual parade planned.

EDGEWATER, MD — The Memorial Day holiday is on Monday, May 30. In observance of the holiday, Anne Arundel County government offices will be closed, along with all Anne Arundel County Public Schools and central offices and county libraries.

Mayo Beach Park, 4150 Honeysuckle Drive in Edgewater, will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Memorial Day. This event is free and open to the general public. Bring your kids and your grandkids and a picnic and enjoy this county-owned public beach.

This county-owned public park is only rarely open to the general public. Mayo Beach has wide sand beaches, a bath house, a playground, a softball field, parking for hundreds of cars and a pavilion that is usually rented out for weddings. Bring your canoe, kayak or stand-up paddleboard and launch from the beach. Bring your binoculars and find the birds that live in the huge tidal pond behind the park.
