Mugger, Victim Wrestle Over Knife in Lothian

Anne Arundel County Police say a pedestrian turned over his wallet, but a robber punched him and demanded more money.

LOTHIAN, MD — A man who turned over his wallet to a robber still had to fight off the suspect after the thief demanded more money, police say.

The assault and robbery happened about 1:20 a.m. Jan. 1 at Sands Road near Whittington Drive in Lothian, according to Anne Arundel County Police.

Police say the suspect assaulted the victim as he was walking home along Sands Road. The robber implied he had a gun and demanded the pedestrian’s money. Once the victim gave the suspect his wallet, the robber punched the victim in the face and demanded more money, police say.

At that point the suspect reportedly pulled a knife on the victim and the two struggled until officers arrived.

The suspect ran toward Whittington Drive when he saw police. Officers chased the man but lost him in the area of 1200 Whittington Drive.
