National Ice Cream Day In Edgewater: Where To Celebrate

EDGEWATER, MD — Ice cream lovers have a day to celebrate big-time once a year on National Ice Cream Day, which falls on Sunday, July 16. Many restaurants and purveyors offer deals and freebies.

McDonald's, for instance, is offering a free soft-serve vanilla cone if you download its mobile app to redeem the offer. The fast food restaurant has locations at 113 Mitchells Chance Road in Edgewater, plus 1941 West St., 2130 Generals Hwy., and 897 Bay Ridge Road in Annapolis.

Friendly’s is giving back to the community by donating $2 from each $2.99 Friend-z purchase at all Friendly’s restaurant locations to Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Additionally through Sept. 17, guests can buy any Friend-z flavor for $2.99. Friendly's has area locations at 120 Mitchells Chance Road in Edgewater, Lakeshore Plaza Shopping Center in Pasadena, 1673 Crofton Center in Crofton, 412 Crain Highway SW in Glen Burnie, and 7134 Ritchie Hwy. in Glen Burnie.

PetSmart is giving away free doggie sundaes for pooches looking to celebrate the occasion Sunday at its PetsHotel locations. The nearest is at 2601 Housley Road in Annapolis, along with 24 Mountain Road in Glen Burnie, 7663 Arundel Mills Blvd. in Hanover and 597-C E Ordnance Road in Glen Burnie.

There are numerous spots to get your ice cream fix in and around Annapolis. Here are a few:

• Sweet Frog Premium Frozen Yogurt, 3059 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater — OK, so it's frozen yogurt but it still hits the spot on a sultry summer day. And it's a favorite spot to stop for visitors.
• Cold Stone Creamery, 15 Lee Airpark Drive in Edgewater — The chain makes its premium ice cream fresh daily. Pick your ice cream flavor and mix-ins.
• Annapolis Ice Cream Company (Annapolis) — Winner of multiple awards, including ‘Best of Annapolis’, Annapolis Ice Cream Company is known for their famous fresh, made-in-shop ice cream. Flavors include: Chocolate Chocolate Chip, Brownie Batter, Pistachio and Apple Pie.
• Storm Brothers Ice Cream Factory (Annapolis) — Since 1976, Storm Bros. has been a downtown Annapolis staple for ice cream, sundaes and shakes. With over 40 flavors to choose from, you can’t go wrong.
• The Daily Scoop (Pasadena) — Customers say their service is just as good as their ice cream. The Daily Scoop serves up friendly service and fresh ice cream that is made right in the store. Ice cream cakes are also available for special occasions.
• Kilwins (Annapolis) — The original recipe ice cream is available in dozens of flavors from traditional vanilla to the creative New Orleans Praline Pecan. Try pairing a scoop with one of their handmade fudge or caramel toppings.
• Ann’s Dari Creme (Glen Burnie) — Craving creamy, old-fashioned ice cream? Ann’s Dari Creme is a casual spot for hot dogs and subs, but most importantly, soft-serve ice cream. Hint: Try a chocolate-dipped cone.
• Bruster’s Real Ice Cream (multiple locations) — With locations across Maryland, Bruster’s is less of a tourist spot as it is a common ice cream pit stop. The large scoops are more than plenty to keep customers satisfied.
