Riva Driver Identified in Single-Vehicle Crash

Police say there was no alcohol involved and they are still trying to determine what caused the crash.

EDGEWATER, MD — Authorities have identified a man who was seriously injured when his car plowed into a tree in Edgewater.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department says the one-vehicle crash happened just before midnight Sunday in the area of Solomons Island Road and Brick Church Road. The vehicle had run through a fence and struck a tree.

Firefighters took 25 minutes to extricate the driver and sole occupant, Justin Michael Sellman, 18, from Riva. No alcohol was detected by investigators, and the cause of the accident has not been determined, police said.

Sellman was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Shock Trauma with injuries that were serious, but not believed life threatening.
