Thunderstorms, Wind Prompt Anne Arundel Schools To Make Weather Decision

Thunderstorms and wind prompted a weather decision from Anne Arundel County Public Schools. Here's how the storms will affect students.

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD — Anne Arundel County Public Schools canceled all after-school activities scheduled for Monday. AACPS pointed to the threat of severe weather.

The cancelation affects athletics, clubs, evening high school classes and extended school day performing and visual arts magnet programs. All schools will still dismiss on time Monday.

The Forecast

The National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook in the morning, calling for numerous severe thunderstorms throughout the afternoon and early evening. Winds could blow at 10 to 15 mph this evening with gusts up to 25 mph.

"Anyone who plans on travelling or being outdoors today should pay extra attention to any watches and warnings," the National Weather Service said in its forecast discussion. "Be ready to seek shelter quickly."

The National Weather Service also said there is a chance of isolated floods and flash floods.

"Damaging winds are the primary threat, but large hail and isolated tornadoes are possible as well," the agency wrote in its hazardous weather outlook. "The best chance for severe storms will be between 2 PM and 7 PM."
