Shady Side House Fire Causes $12K In Damage: Officials

A house fire in Shady Side caused about $12,000 damage; the cause is under investigation, says the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.

SHADY SIDE, MD — The cause of a house fire in Shady Side that did about $12,000 in estimated damage is under investigation, says the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. A neighbor called 911 just before 3 p.m. on April 1 to report the house at 4945 Beech Street was on fire.

Firefighters found the rear of the two-story home on fire; an exterior fire had extended to the attic. The occupants of the home were not present at the time, officials said. No injuries were reported by civilians or first responders.

The house sustained about $10,000 in damage, while the contents had $2,000 in damage. Authorities have not determined if the house had working smoke alarms.

Crews from the Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department and the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department assisted.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Anne Arundel County Fire and Explosives Investigation unit, which is asking anyone with video or pictures of the fire before firefighters arrived to contact them at 410-222-TIPS.
