It appears South River High students will do pretty much anything to raise money for this year’s Polar Bear Plunge.

After students brought a goat to school to raise money to raise money for the Polar Bear Plunge, about 135 students could be seen doing push-up/jumping jack hybrid workouts for a whole hour on Saturday in what has been called the Burpee-A-Thon.

Burpees, a CrossFit-style workout where people go down for a push-up and then lunge back up, jump and reach for the sky—over and over again.

From 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at South River’s turf field, students executed burpee after burpee, totaling 42,000 and raising more than $8,700 for the SnoHawks.

“The athletes got sponsors to either pledge a certain amount per burpee they completed or a flat rate for participating,” said South River boys lacrosse assistant coach Greg Speed. “It went really well.”

Coming up next for the SnoHawks is a special fundraiser on Tuesday at Adam’s Ribs in Edgewater. Head boys lacrosse coach Paul Noone will be serving as a guest bartender from 5-8 p.m., Speed said.

According to the SnoHawks’ official Polar Bear Plunge website, the team has raised $15,645.37.
