South River Farm Park Beach Cleanup

With summer winding down, volunteers made time for one more trip to the beach. Like last year, we hosted our summer cleanup along the shorelines of South River Farm Park.  This beautiful location always makes for a relaxing and enjoyable volunteer event.  While waiting for the volunteers to arrive, we watched a fluffy red fox play in the field near the entrance to the park.  During the cleanup, we saw a bald eagle chasing an osprey that had gotten too close. We thank the fourteen volunteers that came out for their help cleaning up our watershed!

This 170 acre county park is one of the only truly natural sites in our watershed.  The park is located in Edgewater along Limehouse Cove, Selby Bay, and the South River.  Currently, South River Farm Park is the site of the county's park maintenance facilities and is only lightly used by the public.

South River Farm Park has a beautiful living shoreline installed in 1995 by South River Federation founder, John Flood.  The original shoreline is along the South River.  The newest section of shoreline, along Limehouse Cove, was recently installed by the State Highway Administration as one of their mitigation projects.  You can see photos of both shorelines in the slideshow.

If you ever notice an area in our watershed in need of a cleanup, please let us know by emailing Volunteer Coordinator, Jennifer at jennifer@southriverfederation.net
