The students at South River High School will receive a certificate issued by the Brazilian Educational Organization of Vitoria for participating in this international program.
We are ALL connected one way or another.
We are ALL part of ONE planet.
It is everyone’s responsibility to work towards a more sustainable life.
We believe that we can only accomplish sustainability through education. Brazil’s school children’s poor proficiency in reading severely hampers this goal. We hope to encourage the habit of reading and empower kids in Brazil to become more worldly.
Urban Walls – Brazil is a credited partner of The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

This effort is sponsored by the following South River High School groups:
- AP Environmental Science
- STEM Green Technologies
- National Art Honors Society
- Key Club
Each group is working on different components of the Urban Walls Brazil project with with the mission of spreading environmental awareness throughout Brazil and other developing countries.
Thus far South River students have swapped videos with a partner school in Brazil, allowing the students to learn about each other and the local environment. They have participated in a series of video conferences with students at E.M.E.F. Maria Jose C. Moraes school and are working on activities for younger children to help teach them the importance of caring for the environment.
Soon our students will begin work with a professional artist to design a mural that will go on an outside wall of both schools promoting local sustainability and our partnership in the years to come. The mural is expected to be completed by end the school year.
South River High School is raising funds for the E.M.E.F. Maria Jose C. Moraes school, which is located in an impoverished area of Brazil. The goal is to raise $5,000 to purchase books about sustainability written in Portuguese since environmental literacy is not taught in Brazilian schools.
Donations will be collected in the cafeteria
